All About Ingrown Hairs
on the Bikini Line
Much of the same products and regimens used for breakouts on other areas of the body also apply in the case of ingrown hairs around the bikini line. However, the blemishes that occur are not always the same type.
Some ingrown hairs involve build-up of dead skin cells and blackhead material, resulting in plugs that prevent hair from coming through properly. This results mainly from pressure, like tight jeans or pantyhose, or crossing one’s legs, and is typical of people with skin that is not necessarily sensitive. The remedy for this is the use of an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) or Salicylic Acid (BHA) wash using exfoliating gloves, followed by a Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) lotion. You can also use an AHA lotion in conjunction with your exfoliating gloves and Benzoyl Peroxide wash.
Other breakouts involve irritation inside pores as a result of friction from jeans and mesh or lace underwear, and activities like spinning and long term jogging. This happens especially with people who have more sensitive, delicate skin. More visible irritation develops, and blemishes appear red and numerous. The remedy in this case is gentle or even just periodic exfoliation with gloves and a BPO wash, and a cooling gel designed to calm irritation and redness along with hydrating the skin so it releases dead skin cells more easily.
Use of cornstarch, rather than talc, can help if you sit all day. If you don’t, powder may not be necessary and may even be a little drying. If you break out between the thighs, however, corn starch can be very helpful, and in the case of chafing and frequent breakouts, there are web sites and stores that sell slips that are like pants, that come in short, medium and long leg lengths.
